The increase in popularity for Ultras has well and truly impacted my coaching work this year! Two of my clients have embraced the new longer distances during 2022 with Sheena Molony kicking things off in February by completing her first Ultra - the Amersham 50k. Such was her new found enthusiasm for the longer distances that she decided to double her distance and three months later Sheena successfully completed a very hot Race to the Kings by running 50k on the Saturday and another 50k on the Sunday.
Cath McLeod has had a chequered time with her race plans through the Covid epidemic having trained for her first Marathon last year and then only to have it cancelled at the last minute. So it was particularly exciting for her to complete her training this year for the 50k Race to the Stones. What could go wrong? Such bad luck that's what! Covid struck the McLeod household a month before and Cath faced the prospect of missing this one too. But we worked together to make it happen, and until the day we didn't know how she would cope, not just with the after effects of Covid but also the second heatwave - and she did!
